Huskies get a big commitment UPDATED
The Huskies have landed one of their biggest targets remaining in the Class of 2010, securing a commitment tonight from offensive tackle Erik Kohler of Oaks Christian High in Westlake Village. The 6-5, 285-pounder isAir Jordan 10
considered one of the top offensive tackles in the country, rated by Scout.com as No. 21 overall. The LA Times reported it earlier tonight, and recruiting web sites followed suit, including Dawgman.com and RealDawg.com. I also confirmed it a little while ago with Oaks Christian coach Bill Reddell. Kohler is a high school teammate of QB Nick Montana, who earlier committed to UW, and begins to fill a key need for the Huskies in replenishing their offensive line. He is one of three OL commits UW has for the Class of 2010 joining Ben Riva of O'Dea and Colin Porter of Bothell. Reddell said was attracted

by "a combination of (Steve) Sarkisian, the school, the coaching staff and Montana. ... Sark does a fabulous job recruiting. He's an up and up very honest guy and I've always been very impressed with him since I knew him at USC and now.'' And as mentioned above, he also felt it helped that Montana had already committed. "I think that might have helped some,'' Reddell said. "They are good friends and the plays left tackle and protects Montana's back side, so I'm sure Nick wanted him to go there. So I think that might have had some influence, but that was just one factor, not the sole factor.'' Another is that Kohler could have a chance to make an impact pretty quickly. "He's 6-5 and 285, 290 pounds

and very strong and can move well,'' Reddell said. "I think he will learn very fast, so I think that might have had something to do with it where it looked like maybe he would have an opportunity to play early.'' There had been some thought that Kohler might wait a few more weeks before making a decision. But Reddell said he recently met with Kohler and that "I

encouraged him'' to do it now before the season starts. "He's a very cerebral kid, he's a really good student, so he researched everything and made the decision he felt was the best place for him,'' Reddell said. In fact, he said Kohler mentioned that one pull to UW was the school's Department of Classic. UW now has 16 solid commits for the Class of 2010 having gotten four in the last week. Along with giving UW some much-needed heft for the Class of 2010, getting Kohler also adds more evidence that coach Sarkisian will be able to win some recruiting battles in California. It also obviously gives that much more reason for UW fans to be intrigued by the game Oaks Christian will play at Skyline on Sept. 18.
