■ If firmware and Oracle Solaris upgrades are required, install them before installing CPUMs.
■ Do not use a field-replaceable unit (FRU) to upgrade a server.
If a CPU module (CPUM) from Oracle is sold as a field-replaceable unit (FRU), it must be used ONLY for replacement
use. Using FRUs to upgrade CPU performance in systems violates United States export regulations.
Firmware and OS Requirements
Before installing any processor, verify that your server satisfies all requirements for that processor type. Such requirements
include minimum required XCP firmware and Oracle Solaris OS versions, and all required patches.

The matrix lists supported hardware, firmware and OS versions, as well as required software patches. Always refer to a
patch’s README for information about patch requirements and special installation instructions. The two-digit suffix of each
patch represents the minimum revision level of the patch.
CPU Module Requirements
■ A Physical System Board (PSB) can hold one or two pairs of CPUs.
■ If only a single pair of CPUs is installed on a PSB, the pair must be in the lowest numbered slots.
■ Within a pair of CPUs, speed and cache size must be equal.
■ A PSB can support different speeds and cache sizes.
■ CPUs must be installed in pairs, but note that the M4000/M5000 CPUM and the M8000/M9000 CPUM contain different
numbers of CPUs.
M4000/M5000 Servers
The M4000 server supports up to two CPUMs. The M5000 server supports up to four CPUMs.
■ A CPUM holds a pair of CPUs.
■ CPUMs can be upgraded one by one.
M8000/M9000 Servers
■ A CPUM holds a single CPU.
■ CPUMs must be upgraded in pairs. 陪工程师做过M4000的CPU混插，主要工作就操作系统补丁要打，微码要升级。M5000同个系列的应该差不多吧。
