syslog(2)中的2是什么意思？

如图，这是来自man syslog打印出的信息，其中在第一行syslog（2）中的2是什么意思？
在APUE的346页，有句话是：大多数用户进程调用syslog（3）函数以产生日志信息。其中的3又是什么意思？
