标题: how to update e2fsck?
My old os version is Fedora core 3,now I have change it to RHEL AS3 U8.
But when the system boot,it can't fsck the old partitions:
fsck 1.32
e2fsck 1.32
e2fsck:Get a newer version of e2fsck!

I think I should download a newer version,such as below:
e2fsprogs-devel-1.35-11.2
e2fsprogs-1.35-11.2

but i only found it for RHEL4(kernel 2.6).Is it ok for RHEL3(kernel 2.4)?
if not ,what should do?

You are encouraged to download a source tarball.

As is a tradition in the *nix world, you may compile your own copy of the software from the sources, if it is permitted under applicable licence(s).

where can i get the source tallbar?
and if i compile the tarball, do i need to delete the oldversion?

You're welcome.

e2fsck ( 8 ) is available as a part of e2fsprogs at http://e2fsprogs.sourceforge.net/

You may keep or delete the old version of e2fsprogs，but it's better if you keep the old one.
Remember to backup before upgrading

And please do make sure that the newer version is placed under the same directory as the old one.
Use the command "which e2fsck" to determine the directory.
