Yum is an automatic updater and package installer/remover for rpm systems. It automatically computes dependencies and figures out what things should occur to install packages. It makes it easier to maintain groups of machines without having to manually update each one using rpm.
To upgrade to Fedora Core 1 from Red Hat Linux:
1) Download Yum
- Yum for Red Hat Linux 9
http://www.linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/download/2.0/yum-2.0.4-1.noarch.rpm
- Yum for Red Hat Linux 8.0
http://www.linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/download/1.0/yum-1.0.3-1_80.noarch.rpm
- Yum for Red Hat Linux 7.3
http://www.linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/download/1.0/yum-1.0.3-1_73.noarch.rpm
2) Install Yum with rpm -ivh yum*
3) Add the following sources to your /etc/yum.conf

There are three categories of updates:
* Fedora Updates
* Proposed Fedora Updates
* Development Packages
Availability of updates should not be misconstrued as support for anything other than continued development and innovation of the code base.
Fedora Updates
If any security updates, bugfix updates, and new feature updates are available, they can be downloaded from:
In this directory, there is a directory for each release number. For example, for Fedora Core Release 1, there is a 1/ directory.
These updates can also be downloaded using the Red Hat Update Agent (up2date).
Proposed Fedora Updates
Before updated packages are considered Fedora Updates, they may be placed in a testing directory for public testing. After they have been tested more throughly by the community, they can be moved into the Fedora Updates category.

Development Packages
Lastly, there are development packages. These packages are untested and still under development.
There have been issues observed when upgrading Red Hat Linux 7.<x>;, 8.0, 9 and Fedora Core 1 systems running Ximian GNOME. The issue is caused by version overlap between the official Red Hat Linux RPMs (or the ones from the Fedora Project) and the Ximian RPMs. This configuration is not supported. You have several choices in resolving this issue:
1) You may remove Ximian GNOME from your system prior to upgrading to Fedora Core.
2) You may upgrade your system, and then immediately reinstall Ximian GNOME.
3) You may upgrade your system, and then immediately remove all remaining Ximian RPMs, replacing them with the corresponding Fedora Core RPMs.
You must resolve the version overlap using one of the above choices. Failure to do so will result in an unstable GNOME configuration.作者: haohaoo 时间: 2003-11-07 12:18 标题: 使用Yum把Redhat旧版本升级到Fedora Core 1 Fedora Core 1 有什么用,是什么东西,升级后加强了那些功能?
