dvd-rom (4GMB) has much high capacity and throughput than cd-rom (usually 700MB)
live-cd version of freebsd or linux are versions of complete UNIX alike systems that run off cdrom. it means that you can have a unix alike systems anywhere, anytime, well almost. you can ever customized the system and then burn it on the cd/dvd.
from nothing (zero) to a complete system (freebsd or linux) in 5 minutes
