2. System Requirements
-------------------
NOTE: For the most up-to-date system requirements information,
go to the products area on The MathWorks Web site, www.mathworks.com.
PCs:
- Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98 (original and Second Edition),
Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 5 for Y2K compliancy) or
Windows 2000
- Pentium, Pentium Pro, Pentium II or Pentium III or AMD Athlon based
personal computer
- FLEXlm 6.1 for concurrent licenses. Installed by the installer.
- 64 MB RAM minimum for Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 and 2000,
128 MB RAM recommended.
- Disk space requirements vary depending on size of partition
and whether help files are installed. The MATLAB installer
will inform you of the hard disk space requirement for your
particular partition. For example, a partition with a 4KB
cluster size requires 120 MB for MATLAB only and 260 MB for
MATLAB with online help files.
- 8-bit graphics adapter and display (for 256 simultaneous colors)
Other recommended items include:
MS Windows supported graphics accelerator card
MS Windows supported printer
MS Windows supported sound card
Microsoft Word 7.0 (Office 95), 8.0 (Office 97) or Office 2000
is required to run the MATLAB Notebook.
UNIX:
- 90 MB disk space (215 MB if online documentation is installed)
- 64 MB memory, additional memory strongly recommended
- 64 MB swap space
- FLEXlm 6.1 for concurrent licenses. Installed by the installer.
For Linux, MATLAB 6.0 will only run in a glibc (libc6) environment.
The libc5 environment is no longer supported.
The following system configurations are supported:
Sun SPARC (Solaris 2)
- SPARC, ULTRA workstations
- Solaris 2.6, 2.7, 2.8

3. CD Installation
-------------------
9.1 Installation Commands
On UNIX systems: install
On PCs: setup.exe
The MathWorks Product Installer on PCs requires the
Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
9.2 Installation Instructions
For more information about the installation procedure,
see the installation guide for your system. A copy
in PDF format is available in the top-level directory
of the CD.
9.3 Distribution
MATLAB is distributed on two CDs.
One CD holds just the program files for all products
and the other holds the documentation files for all
products.
