Problem


After installing Oracle Enterprise Manager 10.2 grid Agent, "Invalid ioctl opcode = 0x403" error appears in the messages file.


Solution



After installing Oracle Enterprise Manager 10.2 grid Agent, it has been observed that the following errors appear in the /var/adm/messages file:


<>   scsi: [ID 243001 kern.warning] WARNING: /pseudo/fcp@0 (fcp0):


<>           Invalid ioctl opcode = 0x403





It has been identified as a bug in Oracle Enterprise Manager version 10.2. The bug number as filed by Oracle is 4955208. This bug is specifically found with Oracle Enterprise Manager running on Solaris Operating System.


Customers are requested to contact Oracle or look into URLs as mentioned below for more details and current status of the bug.

Temporary Workaround:


1. Ignore the entries in the messages file, but the files are being filled everyday by the agent.


2. If the grid agent is stopped, then it is observed that these messages also disappear.


It would appear that these events occur shortly after the crashes of the 'nmhs' executable which is part of Oracle Enterprise Manager agent, which was installed shortly before these messages started.
