Job Title: Firmware Design Manager Reports To: Domain Manager
Department: JDS SHA Enterprise Domain Job Grade: High
Location: Shanghai, China Salary:Competitive
SUMMARY
Plan, organize, coach, and direct the firmware engineering staff for computing & storage and customer product’s design and implementation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
Recruitment and Retention:
•Recruit, interview, and hire team members for specific firmware team
•Monitor team member turnover; identify key factors that can be improved; make improvements.
Employee and Team Development:
•Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.
•Create and/or validate training curriculum in area of responsibility.
•Coach and mentor firmware staff to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer.
•Create and manage succession plans for team staff.
Performance Management:
•Establish clear measurable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results (i.e. operational metrics, results against project timelines, training documentation, attendance records, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals).
•Solicit ongoing feedback from peers and team member on team member’s contribution to the Design Services team. Provide ongoing coaching and counseling to team member based on feedback.
•Express pride in staff and encourage them to feel good about their accomplishments.
•erform team member evaluations professionally and on time.
•Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve in key operational metrics and the achievement of the organizational goals.
•Coordinate activities of large teams and keep them focused in times of crises.
•Ensure recognition and rewards are managed fairly and consistently in area of responsibility.
Communication:
•rovide communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information with other function departments.
•Organize verbal and written ideas clearly and use an appropriate business style.
•Ask questions; encourage input from team members.
•Assess communication style of individual team members and adapt own communication style accordingly.
Technical Skills:
•rovide direction on design and development activities to improve, modify or design new equipment products and processes.
•Oversee key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis.
•Select, develop, train and supervise staff. Establish individual goals and training plans.
•Develop, determine and implement policies, procedures and programs.
•Hands-on / Extensive AMI or Avocent IPMI code development experience.
•Hands-on / Extensive SES firmware development for LSI, Vitesse/Maxim or PMC (Preferred)
•Demonstrated knowledge of x86 architecture, and BMC & SES design and implementation.
•Adept at both assembly language and C.
•Analyze technology trends, human resources needs and market demand to plan projects.
•Confer with management and production staff to determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness.
•Ensure proper documentation.
•Select correct design concept and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement of existing ones.
•Design and develop new components or redesign existing components to improve company products.
•Determine and establish specifications through engineering calculations and layouts.
•Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor.
•Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in software engineering with a minimum of eight ( years computing or storage product’s BIOS or BMC firmware design experience; MSEE, MBA preferred
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual capable of working with a minimum of supervision in a dynamic team environment. Good interpersonal skill is needed.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate regarding common scientific and/or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of Jabil’s software packages
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Individual’s primary workstation is located in the office area, where the noise level is low. Employee may frequently be present on the manufacturing floor where the noise level is low to moderate.
