Just as the New Year was settling in, VERITAS Software Corporation announced its intention to acquire Ejasent, one of its Mt. View, CA neighbors. Ejasent, a four year-old privately held software start-up has developed products that are targeted for use in utility computing environments. It has brought 2 products to market. These products are UpScale, an application virtualization suite and MicroMeasure, a real-time metering, monitoring and billing/charge-back tool (see Figure 1). Together these products provide key enabling components necessary in the demand-based ecosystems of Utility Data Centers (UDC).
