The purpose of this document is to discuss how Virtual Partition Manager (VPM) can be used to configure a Capacity BackUp (CBU) system with flexible processor allocation so that it can consume additional processor resources when a production workload fails over.
NOTE: The information documented in this paper is only for those systems that do not have a Hardware Management Console
Power systems support the concept of “shared” processors which allows multiple workloads to run on the same Power processor. CBU systems can take advantage of this capability to establish a partition configuration in which the partition consume the processor entitlement of the CBU system and can then be modified to consume the additional processor allocation of the production workload without requiring a restart of the system.
