Actually, Asterisk is more than making calls. of course, phone call is a main feature. beside the call for ISP, asterisk can implement  for education, banking. as i know, lot of US companies are moving to Open source VOIP such as asterisk and SER. the low cost with good features is a selling point.  one thing that you should notice is asterisk can use SIP and TCP/IP. from here, you can connect to CRM(SugurCRM), call center and yahoo messager. there are lot of open source software support asterisk. in my experience, once you demo asterisk to customers, they will consider it. it is very simple that customer can paly it with a lower price.  once again, you can earn money from asterisk business. all depends on your creative ideas.  I am very confident in Asterisk. How about you?  let's start doing it.
