Mirrored disks are very useful for critical servers,
like production web servers, DB servers, and mail servers.
If it is configured correctly, you system will be up and running
when some of the disks are dead.
A back up (bootble) disk with the OS and all data, is good for
production servers, too. You always can boot from it so all your
services are ready and you have time to repair other disks.
Of course, it is at lease one day old, and for DB servers, like Oracle, you can not do it unless you can stop the DB to do a cold back
up or use RMAN. |
