在《RHCE Red Hat Certified Engineer Linux Study Guide (Exam RH302), Fifth Edition》的Chapter 3中仍写道：

If you have multiple hard drives, there is one more caveat. If your drives are IDE (PATA) hard drives, the /boot directory must be on a hard drive attached to the primary IDE controller. If your drives are all SCSI hard drives, the /boot directory must be located on a hard drive with SCSI ID 0 or ID 1. If you have a mix of hard drives, the /boot directory must be located on either the first IDE drive or a SCSI drive with ID 0.

请教有经验的老鸟，这个还必须吗？

不一定，只要设置该分区为启动分区就行。

2楼的误会了，不是active分区的问题。
是多硬盘时BIOS选择读哪个MBR的问题，我在VMWare下做了以下测试：

单块SCSI硬盘(ID 0)
安装了RHEL4
将这块盘（/boot所在）的SCSI ID改到5
添加新硬盘（空盘）SCSI ID为0
BIOS中设置SCSI ID为5的硬盘（/boot所在）第一启动，启动失败

更改SCSI ID为5的硬盘（/boot所在）SCSI ID为1，这时SCSI ID 0&1共存，仍然启动失败

删除SCSI ID0的空盘，将/boot所在盘的SCSI ID再改到5，这时仅一块盘，但其SCSI ID从最初的0改成了5，启动成功
（应该是因为fstab中各分区是以LABEL标识，而非sdaX）

更多实验继续中。。。（先吃饭去了）
