The entire goal of a SAN is to provide storage to hosts. Some low end SANs only support Intel-based servers running Windows NT,Windows 2000, or NetWare. Better SANs can support hosts running WindowsNT, Windows 2000, NetWare, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, and IRIX.\n\nHost Bus Adapters\n\nA host bus adapter (HBA) connects a server system to an external Fibre Channel storage system or to a Fibre Channel switch. A DPE includesa storage processor that is responsible for host communication and implementing RAID functions.
