There have been much discussions on possible issues on upgrading pre Irix 6.5.20 to 6.5.22m [which is available free if you are a support-folio member].
I performed an upgrade, from Irix 6.5.17m straight to Irix 6.5.22m, for my sgi Indy
Configuration
cpu: MIPS R5k
Secondary unified I/D cache: 512 k-byte
I-cache: 32 k-byte
D-cache: 32 k-byte
RAM: 128 M-byte
Hard-disk: 4 G-byte (SCSI II)
Installation was smooth and no problems were encountered, not even conflicts (as long as you solved them, if any, in installing 6.5.17m). Installation of 6.5.17m covers the following:
1. installation and overlay #1 [disk 1]
2. overlay 3 of 4
3. overlay 4 of 4
4. applications
5. foundation 1 of 2
6. foundation 2 of 2
7. development libraries
8. development foundations
9. ONC3-nfs
Step 1:
get patch 5086 from sgi "support-folio" site -->; www.support.sgi.com
by searching keyword "6.5.22m"
Step 2:
Apply the patch via the "inst" utility after unzip-untar the patch
Step 3:
re-boot computer to ensure that the patch installed in Step 2 is effective
Step 4:
Download the three IRIX6.5.22m-tar.gz files for the upgrade
Step 5:
unzip and untar the tar.gz files in step 4 in a directory
Step 6:
As root, use the "inst" utility to install
Step 7:
Reboot, then you'll have the 6.5.22m installed in you sgi machine.
Good luck and have fun!! |
