HOSTNAME.LOG文件的作用？

但是我发现这个LOG文件里，只显示如下信息：/usr/sbin/mysqld, Version: 5.1.22-rc-community-log (MySQL Community Edition (GPL)). started with:
Tcp port: 3306  Unix socket: (null)
Time                 Id Command    Argument

另外什么都没有。。

但是帮助上说：The general query log is a general record of what mysqld is doing. The server writes information to this log when clients connect or disconnect, and it logs each SQL statement received from clients.

为什么？？哪位能给我一个答复？？
