1 Current 4 Gbps System storage servers
1.1 IBM System storage server DS4200 Express(entry-level)
n The DS4200 is designed to replace the DS4100 Storage server.
n The DS4200 has a total of four 4 Gbps FC host ports and 2 GB of cache memory.
n It can hold a maximum of 16 disk drives inside thestorage server enclosure and can attach up to six EXP420 Expansion Units for a totalof up to 112 SATA disk drives.
n It is designed to deliver data throughput of up to 1600 MBps.
n DS4200 Express 4 Gbps technology is that it is backward compatible with 2 Gbps and even 1 Gbps technologies.

1.2 IBM System storage server DS4700 Express(entry-level to mid-level)
n The DS4700 storage server is designed to replace the DS4300 storage server.
n It can hold a maximum of 16 disk drivesinside the storage server enclosure and can attach up to six EXP810 Expansion Unitsfor a total of up to 112 Fibre Channel or SATA disk drives.
n The DS4700 comes in two models, Model 72(1814-72A) and Model 70(1814-70A).
n The Model 72 has a total of eight 4 Gbps FC host ports and 4 GB of cache memory
n The Model 70 has a total of four 4 Gbps FC host ports and 2 GB of cache memory.
1.3 IBM System Storage DS4800 storage server
n The DS4800 is designed as a replacement of the DS4500 storage server.
n The DS4800 takes advantage of 4 Gbps Fibre Channel interface technology and can support up to 224 disk drives by attaching IBM System Storage EXP810, EXP710, or EXP100 disk units.
n Four models are available: the new Model 80(1815-80A) with 4 GB of cache, the 82A(1815-82A) with 4 GB of cache, the 84A(1815-84A) with 8 GB of cache, and the Model88A (1815-88A)with 16GB of cache.
n The DS4800 base controller unit is broken down into five primary Field Replacement Units (FRUs).

3 The 4 Gbps expansion enclosures
3.1 DS4000 EXP420
n DS4000 EXP420 expansion enclosure supports up to 16 SATA disk drives in a switched configuration (SBOD).
n Fully populated with 500 GB SATA disk drive modules, this enclosure offers up to 8 TB of raw storage capacity.
n The DS4200 and EXP420 can only use the 500 GB SATA EV-DDM drives
n The EXP420 is the only expansion unit supported by the DS4200.
3.2 DS4000 EXP810
n The DS4000 EXP810 expansion enclosure offers a 4 Gbps FC interface,
n This is a 4-Gbps Fibre Channel interface technology that can attach to the DS4300, DS4500, DS4700, and DS4800 It supports up to 16 FC disk drives or E-DDM SATA drives (note that, at the time of writing, you cannot intermix FC and SATA drives within the same enclosure)
n Fully populated with 300 GB FC disk drive modules, this enclosure offers up to 4.8 TB of raw storage capacity or up to 8 TB when populated with the 500 GB E-DDM (Enhanced Value Disk Drive Modules )SATA drives.
4 Withdrawn 2 Gbps expansion enclosures
4.1 DS4000 EXP100
n The DS4000 EXP100 expansion enclosure supports up to 14 SATA disk drives.
n Fully populated with 400 GB SATA disk drive modules, this enclosure offers up to 5.6 TB of raw storage capacity.
4.2 DS4000 EXP710
n The new DS4000 EXP710 expansion enclosure supports up to 14 FC disk drives in a switched configuration (SBOD).
n Fully populated with 300 GB FC drive modules, this enclosure offers up to 4.2 TB of storage capacity.
