***** DataWare Version 5.1 , ProWare Corp. *****
***** Information about Installation *****
This file contains the key information about the installation
of DataWare.
(1) System floppy
The system floppy (1 diskette) of this version(5.1) contains
5 major files for installation of DataWare:
1. dwinst
2. cfg.a
3. cfg.b
4. waredata
5. install.doc
(Notes: Since structure changes & bugs correction, old files
dwdaemon, wareadm.. no longer use)
(2) Installation procedures
1. Check if hardware (i.e. RAID) is properly set and connect
to your servers.
2. Power on 2 servers.
3. If your server not yet build file system for RAId, build it
from one of your server (check with your UNIX supplier for
more information about creation of devices & format a disk)
4. Make sure your SCSI id setting in RAID is the same to each
host.
Under "/tmp" directory:
1. Change dir to "/tmp"
2. Insert DataWare system floppy in floppy drive, using tar to
retrieve the content of diskette to "/tmp" (e.g. use "tar xv6"
under SCO system)
3. Copy one of "cfg.a" or "cfg.b" to dw.cfg (depends on your host
e.g. copy cfg.a to dw.cfg if in host A), the change dw.cfg
(could use vi to edit)to match to your host configuration.
4. If dw.cfg configuration is correct with your server,
run "./dwinst" under /tmp
Notes: 1. Be sure dw.cfg matchs your server configurations
before running "dwinst", examples are listed
at end of this file (Appendix).
2. Another server takes the same procedures as stated
above.
(3) Finish the installation
When you finish the installation (i.e. after run "./dwinst"),
you can restart each server (with RAID ready), DataWare will
be started automatically.
(4) DataWare status/configuration check
The status of DataWare can be checked by typing the following
commands (dwcheck in /usr/lib/dataware/exec & /usr/bin):
1. "dwcheck" : No argument means to check running mode,
role, running status.
2. "dwcheck c" : With argument 'c', it shows the configurations.
3. "dwcheck n" : With argument 'n', it shows the Serial Number
of DataWare.( it is used to inform ProWare to
get password)
(5) Setting password
After installation, program file "dwsetpsw" will be in
"/usr/lib/dataware/exec"
It is for the user to set password, the password should be set
within 30 days after installation (password can be obtained
from Distribution Site of ProWare Corp. by giving your Serial
Number generated from "dwcheck n", see previous item.)
"dwsetpsw" is an interactive inquiry program, you can run
it without parameters.
APPENDIX:
The following are examples of configuration file "dw.cfg" in
host A & host B (standby mode) respectively.
** Notes: 1. The title length of each field is 14 chars(include
the ':' char)
2. Leave the fields blank (like field in ts_tables) if you
don't need, but keep the title.
3. '@' character is used for a continue line of an item,
must be the first character in that row.(see below)
