Install XFCE 4.0 on Solaris 9
Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for various *NIX systems. It aims to be fast and lightweight, while still being visually appealing and easy to use. Based on GTK, designed for productivity, it loads and executes fast, while conserving system resources.
1. uname -a
[occdb]:/u01/app/oracle--> uname -a
SunOS occdb 5.9 Generic_118558-18 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
2. Download the Xfce install pkg and the dependecy files from :
http://www.us.xfce.org/archive/xfce-4.0.0/solaris-sparc/
3. switch to root user
su
4. Install the dependant pkg first one by one.
pkgadd -d xxx.pkg
.....
.....
5. Install XFCEcore-4.0-xfce_4.0.pkg, XFCEextra-4.0-xfce_4.0.pkg and XFCEdt-4.0-xfce_4.0.pkg
pkgadd -d XFCEcore-4.0-xfce_4.0.pkg
pkgadd -d XFCEextra-4.0-xfce_4.0.pkg
pkgadd -d XFCEdt-4.0-xfce_4.0.pkg
6. When installing XFCEdt-4.0-xfce_4.0.pkg, it will complain for some error:
## Installing part 1 of 1.
/etc/dt/appconfig/icons/C/XFCElogo.pm
[ verifying class ]
ERROR: attribute verification of failed
owner name not found in passwd table(s)
Installation of partially failed.
this is not important, and so just ignore it.
7. Open a xmanager, in the dtlogin "options->session" drop-down menu, choose "XFCE Desktop Environment". Enter username and password.
