What is the term for an easily transportable version of the Solaris operating system that can be used for the rapid installation of Solaris on a large number of machines?
a) WOS
b) Flash archives
c) Miniroot
d) BFU

The correct answer is b.

Solaris Flash Archives are mirrored images of a system that can be installed on another system of the same architecture. The flash archive can include third-party packages as well as optional Solaris components. The 'flar' command is used to administer flash archives. See "Creating Solaris Flash Archives" in the Solaris 10 Installation Guide.

'WOS' is slang for everything in the Solaris ON consolidation.

'Miniroot' is a subset Solaris OE kernel and filesystem. It is a minimal environment intended only for OS install and upgrade operations.

'BFU' originally stood for "Bonwick/Faulkner Upgrade" but has since become more widely known as "Blindingly Fast Upgrade". It is an ad-hoc replacement of Solaris components using the 'bfu' command and means that those components can no longer be updated using Solaris packages. BFU archives are cpio-format archives which install ON binaries into a live system.
