大家好，有个问题想请教大家，这个帖子发在这里可能不一定合适，但我看了论坛各板块，不知道该往哪里发。就选了这个人气最旺的地方。实验室准备买一台mac pro的机器，双cpu，每个cpu四核（Xeon Quad-Core 2,8 GHz），主要是用来做计算，各位能否推荐一个unix或linux系统，对openMP和mpi支持比较好的？谢谢

对 openMP or MPI 没有研究，我觉得只要能装上，solaris or redhat 都可以 但我现在极度讨厌redhat

Xeon 的话只能用LINUX了，软件支持的比较好。

1、这里redhat和suse哪个好点（易用、稳定）？
2、对于相同的系统，是不是版本号越高越好？

关于硬件配置，怎么来优化。我在网上搜了一下，有三种机器，一是mac pro，二是DELL Power Edge2900III，三是HP xw8600 Workstation。我的问题如下，
1、都是2个xeon的4核cpu，内存配多大能够最好的发挥cpu的性能？内存越大越好吗？内存条数跟cpu核心数目有一定关系吗？
2、RAID的卡很重要吗？SAS 6iR internal RAID controller card，报价挺贵。

SUse我用的很少，redhat AS倒是很多，建议你安装这个
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1 and 5 and Desktop 5.1 and 5 on x86-64 processors and clusters thereof
版本号越高当然比较好，对硬件支持和其他新技术，如虚拟化的支持更好

关于

1.内存根据应用来考虑，能说说是什么计算？物理模型？一般建议至少配置16G左右，也不是越多越好
内存现有的机型一般都支持到64G，和CPU核心数目没有太大的关系
2. RAID卡很重要，可以提供磁盘的冗余保护，上面的机型基本上都内置控制卡了，不会另外算钱的

非常感谢。主要做一些量子力学和量子化学的计算，还有可能做一些有限元的计算。内存我也想着配16G的，再多就挺贵了。

如果要装windows和linux双系统，是不是两个硬盘要好点？一个系统装一个硬盘，这样可以减少两个系统之间的相互干扰吗？
