1st Day

After browsed the documentation of exim,I found:
It looks like no receiving mails functions,such as pop3 imap etc. Only smtp then.
So I wonder if it can be used to perform an unique(independent) mail server. So that I can use Outlook for receiving and delivering mails.

I found the meaning of a MTA.

MTA 只是一个agent 负责邮件的传递,可以说MTA就是各地的邮局。而[取得信件]功能并不包括在其中。
如果配置好MTA(exim4)后,还需要一个pop或者IMAP的取mail服务。用什么配合exim4比较合适呢？

It was installed by default of Debian 4.0.
Using
#exim4 -bd
to start listen TCP 25 port on all available interfaces.
