It is somewhere between a system administrator and a system programmer. I'd call it system analyst.
Some real *nix development experience is definitely a plus, but not a must, since the team does not develope new code, it just analyzes the existing code.
So an experienced developer may not find this position interesting.
Ideal candidate should know enough about the overall system design and stacks to quickly narrow down the problem to a specific area, then do in-depth analysis in that area. We're talking about operating system here, so there're lots of areas .
Since this a band 7-8 position, not a "Senior Software Engineer (band 9)", the candidate may not be a *nix expert by now, but needs to show the potentials, including a broad interest in operating system technologies, and, strong logical thinking capability to be an excellent problem analyzer. |
