Sun is announcing the 9840B FC Tape Drive for the Sun StorEdgeTM L180, L700 and L6000 Tape Libraries.
The 9840B drive offers improved performance versus the 9840A. Capacity in both the 9840A and 9840B is 20 GB per tape. However, the transfer rate for the 9840B is 19 MB/Sec as opposed to 9 MB/Sec for the 9840A. The 9840B is also capable of 2 GB/full fabric connectivity.
Please note that the SG-XTAP9840BFC-DRV is for the Sun StorEdge L180 and Sun StorEdge L700 libraries while SG-XL5500-9840BFC is for the Sun StorEdge L6000 library. A SCSI version will not be offered for the 9840B based on demand in the marketplace.
