3.1基本安装方法
在测试系统上，我们安装了Netscape Directory Server 4.13、iPlanet Messaging Serevr 5.1、iPlanet Enterprise Server 4.1 sp7和iPlanet Delegated Administrator 4.5 for messaging server等软件。
3.2 UNIX工具使用
软件包如果采用 gz为文件后缀，应使用 gzip 软件解压缩，方法如下：
gzip –dv filename.gz
软件包为tar后缀，应采用tar工具将软件解包，方法如下：
tar xvf filename.tar
软件包如果采用zip为文件后缀，应使用unzip 软件解压缩，方法如下：
unzip -U –a filename.zip
3.3软件安装
3.3.1准备工作
建立邮件服务帐号，如下：
# useradd -m -d /home/mailsrv -g nobody -s /bin/ksh mailsrv

Netscape server information is stored in the Netscape configuration
directory server, which you may have already set up. If so, you
should configure this server to be managed by the configuration

The standard directory server network port number is 389. However, if
you are not logged as the superuser, or port 389 is in use, the
default value will be a random unused port number greater than 1024.

The Administration Domain is a part of the configuration directory
server used to store information about Netscape software. If you are
managing multiple software releases at the same time, or managing
information about multiple domains, you may use the Administration
Domain to keep them separate.

administration domain, such as the name of the organization responsible
for managing the domain.

Replication is used to duplicate all or part of a directory server to
another directory server. This can be used for failsafe purposes, to
ensure that the directory data is always online and up-to-date in case
one server goes down. It is also useful for distributing directory
data from a central main repository to remote directory servers.

The Administration Server is separate from any of your application
servers since it listens to a different port and access to it is
restricted.

will remember and which will not be used for anything else.

The Messaging Server requires the use of a Delegated Administration Server. The
Delegated Administration Server is used by administrators and endusers to
manage user accounts and their preferences.
A Delegated Administration Server does not have to exist at the given host and
port. It may be installed later.

The Messaging Server can route mail destined for remote domains through a Smart
Host. The Smart Host would then be responsible for routing the mail.
You would need a Smart Host if, for example, the Messaging Server were behind a
firewall that prevented it from sending mail directly to the Internet. If you
choose to use a Smart Host, you must specify the fully-qualified host name of
the Smart Host.

The iWS Administration Server is separate from the other web servers
on the system and should not be confused with the Mission Control Admin
Server. It is recommended that the iWS Administration Server run with
a different user id than those used by the other web servers on the machine.
The Administration Server user is the only user able to write web server
configuration files. If the iWS Administration Server is run as "root",
the administration GUI can be used to start and stop web servers.

9 Administration Server Configuration File
When installing Messaging Server, you should write down the administration port number you specify to the installer. You will need to know this port number to use the Administration Console. When you start Console, you will be asked for the administration port number chosen during installation. If you do not know the port number, it is recorded in the following file: server-root/admin-serv/config/adm.conf

10 custom mail store
On UNIX, during a custom installation, if you specify a custom mail store, you must create the directory manually after installation. The directory should be owned by the iPlanet Messaging Server user and group, and have permissions 750.
