TITLE:  Engineering Director, MAPS Beijing        DEPARTMENT:  MAPS
LOCATION: Beijing, China
GENERAL SUMMARY/PURPOSE

company is seeking an energetic and highly experienced Engineering Director in China to lead a team of engineers that create and maintain applications for Media Application Platform Services(MAPS) team.

The engineering lead needs to be technical leaders and motivators who are comfortable leading the team of 40+ engineers in a high-pressure, dynamic and global environment. Responsibilities are broadly defined and interact with multiple MAPS teams at Seattle.

About MAPS Team:
Media Application Platforms Services (MAPS) is the group within company responsible for the creation, delivery and support of core, shared, back-end systems supporting all of our consumer businesses and corporate customers.  

MAPS systems enable key business functions including order management, eCommerce/billing, content management (ingestion, editing, metadata storage and publishing), user services (authentication, authorizations and preferences), and business intelligence.  MAPS systems support company direct-to-consumer businesses, which provide digital media including casual games, music, and video content to consumers via the web and a range of compatible devices.  MAPS systems also support our corporate partners who use company technology and/or service to provide digital content to their own customers.

MAPS consists of technical architects, system engineers/developers, test engineers, business and technical analysts, program/project managers, technical writers and technology leaders, headquartered in Seattle, Washington with significant off-shore teams in India and Beijing, China


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
List the four to six major job duties (essential job functions) in order of their importance and the percentage of time used to perform that duty.  Be as specific as possible.  Duties may include such activities as maintains department files, uses a variety of software to compose correspondence, provides recommendations on investment strategy, creates financial spreadsheets, etc.  The total time should equal 100%.

Essential Functions:
1.        Manage engineering team and ensure successful execution of complex software projects while keeping team motivated and productive        50%% of Time
2.        Work with Seattle teams to provide improvements to team processes, mentor and lead other team leaders        30%% of Time
3.        Work with corporate function teams(HR, Finance, Legal, Facilities, etc) to ensure the efficient operations of the development team        20%% of Time
      
Non-Essential Functions:
•QUANTITATIVE MEASURES:
Include information here regarding how the position will be measured (i.e. sales quota, call volume, etc.)
•Successful execution of challenging projects
•Highly motivated and productive team, and low churn rate of top performers
•Implementation of software processes for sustainable growth of team

Job Description         
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
List the minimum and then the preferred levels of knowledge, skills, and abilities, education, and experience required for this position.
Experiences
Minimum:
•B.S. degree in Computer Science or related field, Masters degree preferred
•Demonstrable record of innovative technology development, management and delivery
•10+ years of technical experience in corporate environment
•7+ years of experience leading technical/engineering teams, 3+ years leading teams for western companies
•At least 3 years of experience working for a U.S, or other western multi-national
•Strong communication ability in written and verbal in both English and Mandarin
•Diplomatic skills and experience necessary to work in a highly matrixed organization
•International travel may be needed upon business needs.

Preferred:
•Working experience in the United States
•2+ years leading remote development center
