Purpose of the Job
The database team support more than 400 SQL Server and 150 Oracle databases, primarily data warehouses, supporting production, development and rollouts to new countries throughout Europe. The DBA will work with other members of the team to ensure a stable level of service and to identify, develop and implement enhancements to the operations environment. The DBA will also work with the application teams to design and enhance physical databases.
The DBAs also assist with the administration of Sharepoint and installation and configuration of other third party tools.
Principal Accountabilities
¨ Ensure all necessary security and access controls are in place.
¨ Assist in the identification and resolution of database problems (reported by Openview, users, developers and support teams)
¨ Assist in the roll-out of SQLServer/Oracle software and patches, and upgrade of databases
¨ Liase with the Unix team and LAN administration team to maintain filesystems, database files, and account management
¨ Development, maintenance, QA and rollout of internal housekeeping scripts
¨ Configuration and builds of new databases, and support of development and support application teams in the rollout of the application.
¨ Reverse engineer legacy systems and supply meta-data using ERwin. Participate in the continued development and enhancement of the Common Data Model.
¨ Assist in the development, enhancement and deployment of database standards and procedures, the development and modelling of databases, and the roll-out of a global toolset and standards
¨ Participate in a rota providing full 7x24 production support.
Knowledge & Experience
¨ 3 years experience in a similar role in a large installation
¨ Proven experience with the systems management of very large Data Warehouse Databases
¨ Solid Unix (AIX preferred) and/or similar knowledge of Wintel operating systems
¨ Experienced in change management in the Oracle/SQLServer environments
¨ Detailed knowledge of tuning and capacity planning.
¨ Knowledge of Openview (or other monitoring tools) and/or SQL*Backtrack a plus
¨ Knowledge of Korn shell, Perl or PL/SQL or similar MS languages
¨ Experience with data modelling tools
