Sr. SW Development Engineer - ESX Server VMkernel Networking (OS内核，网络)

Job Requirements

Engineers on this team are building large scale systems that manage Virtual Infrastructure, probably focused on networking aspect. They use virtualization as a key technology to design and implement solutions that solve real-world problems. Their work focuses on developing scalable software capable of managing virtualization systems in datacenters and cloud.

Engineers interested in systems architecture, systems software, and distributed systems get to design and implement novel operating system techniques and algorithms for managing both virtual and real computer hardware. They work on harnessing the power of highly sophisticated computer, networking and storage hardware. In this role you will be challenged to develop next generation system networking modules for our premier virtualization software product: VMware vSphere. They will get to engineer the revolutionary datacenter and enterprise networking virtualization.

Roles and Responsibilities:
* Act as one of the technical leaders of the team.
* Design and implement next generation operating system networking subsystems and develop it with low-level system programming.
* Design and implement end-to-end networking solutions for next generation virtualization environment.
* Determine, design, and implement scalability requirements for large scale virtual data center networks and internet scale cloud network solutions.
* As a hands-on developer, will be capable of fully understanding the networking system and implementing and guiding the changes required to maximize virtual and physical I/O performance and scalability.
* Work on networking resource management requirements for virtual networks and virtual machines; work on kernel and user space software; problem analysis, resolution, and debugging.

Requirements

* BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent
* 6+ years of industry experience, preferred in MNCs
* Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
* Knowledge of CPU internals, CPU schedulers, memory management, x86 platform CPU and server architecture.
* Solid knowledge of modern UNIX kernels (i.e., Linux, BSD, Solaris, AIX, or HP/UX) in kernel/C development, debugging, problem and performance analysis
* Strong familiarity with TCP/IP protocol suites, knowledge of L2 switching and/or L3 routing.
* Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills with ability to work independently and deliver products in a timely manner
* Strong self starter with a successful track record

(Sr.) QE Engineer – GOS Validation (OS内核测试)

VMware, a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is seeking a Senior QE Engineer with a proven track record for delivering high quality software products. As a member of the GOS Validation team, you will be responsible for validating the correct operation of over 400 Guest Operating Systems (GOS) on our award-winning virtualization products such as ESX and Workstation. You will have the opportunity to work with a broad set of functional areas, such as network, storage, and video and a large number of Operating Systems, such as Windows, Linux, Solaris, BSD, and Netware.

Responsibilities
* Work closely with Development and Product Management to ensure timely and quality product releases.
* Participate in initiatives to support continuous improvement of process, quality metrics, communication, tool development, etc…
* Write test plans and define test cases for one or more features for a given product release.
* Design, implement and execute automated and manual tests.
* Evaluate and communicate test results.
* File and maintain bug reports.
* Participate in review of feature specification and design.
* Coordinate and collaborate with other QE teams, both local and off-shore.

Requirements
* BS or MS in computer science, or equivalent
* 3-5 years professional experience as a Software QE Engineer, working on a large software product requiring a high degree of collaboration and integration.
* 2 years experience developing test automation using Perl or Python.
* Understanding of x86 OS/kernel internals and their interaction with hardware virtualization, including memory management, resource management, CPU scheduling and device drivers.
* Understanding of the major components of standard PC architecture, such as processors, memory management, BIOS, and PCI.
* Experience working with the open source community and familiarity with projects such as linux,org, X.org, and one or more Linux distributions.
* Hands-on experience with a broad spectrum of operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, Solaris, Netware, and BSD.
* Prior experience with VMware virtualization products is highly desired.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
* Must be able to prioritize, track and complete multiple outstanding tasks

Requirements:

* Bachelor/Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent from a reputable university
* 10+ years of industry experience
*  Hands-on experience shipping production software
* Experience at a technology startup a plus
* Very solid design and development experience in distributed systems and at least one of below areas:
database, database management; cloud computing, cloud management system
* Strong coding skills in Java and modern development frameworks
* Experience with C/C/++ a plus
* Outstanding problem-solving skills
* Excellent communication skills in both Chinese and English
* Comfortable developing for the Windows and/or Linux environments

Responsibilities:

The Senior Product Manager will be tasked with guiding and augmenting a new R&D initiative to explore how data will be managed in tomorrow’s virtual data center. The role requires an individual with strong leadership, partnering and analytical skills who can lead a team and create a shared vision for VMware’s data management direction; foster a vibrant ecosystem; help build products from existing ideas; and help develop new ideas based on industry experience and contacts with partners and  prospects. The ideal candidate possesses a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. He/she must enjoy spending time with customers to understand their challenges and needs, enjoy spending time with core engineering teams to find innovative and practical solutions.  He/she should demonstrate a proven ability to align product direction with company directions.  Exceptional project management, organizational, communication and presentation skills must be demonstrated.   Good interpersonal skills required to facilitate positive working relationships with the engineering and sales team, customers and partners.

Typical duties
* Enterprise System Administration in a mixed Windows and Linux environment
* DHCP, WINS and DNS server administration
* EMC storage and print server administration.
* Monitoring and Alerting of all critical systems
* Deploy, setup and maintain enterprise grade hardware from various manufactures (HP, IBM, Dell, and more).
* Deploy, setup and maintain enterprise virtual machines
* Configuration Management of Engineering Systems
* Maintain the Engineering “Standard Desktops” including Windows, Linux & ESX
* Maintain the Engineering “Standard Virtual Machines” including Windows & Linux.
* Manage requests on a ticketing system.
* Manage core network resources (switch fabric, dns servers, dhcp servers, ntp servers, pxe servers).
* Deploy, setup and maintain enterprise grade ethernet switch hardware from various manufacturers (Extreme, Cisco, NetGear).
* Setup or maintain other infrastructure equipment such as UPS, Avocent product, and KVM console Panel.

Job description/requirements
* Have a good general understanding of networking.
* DNS, VLAN setting, network segmentation.
* Able to use network monitoring tool (WinPcap, LANguard, Sniff) to do troubleshooting is a plus.
* Candidate should be able to describe, diagnose, and fix common switch level (and wiring level) issues.
* Basic understanding of SAN and NAS architecture
* Experience with Active Directory domain architecture planning, implementation and maintenance
* Experience with DHCP, WINS and DNS server administration
* Experience with file and print server administration.
* Experience with Server Monitoring & Alerting
* Experience with Security configuration and auditing for Windows systems
* Intermediate to strong Linux experience, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

* Good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills on a variety of hardware.
