64位机安装openssl-0.9.8o报错

机器是centos5  64位的
开始报：
gcc: error trying to exec 'cc1': execvp: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [cryptlib.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/opt/openssl/crypto'
make: *** [build_crypto] Error 1
在网上找的要装glibc-devel   32位的包
装上glibc-devel-2.5-34   for i386的rpm包，这步过了，然后又报下面的错误。

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lssl

求高人指点。

为什么要compile呢，不是有rpm包吗？

我也不知道有什么区别，领导要求的，好像一般都要求这么装。
