我的CentOS见鬼了！救命！

我的服务器是CentOS 5.4 64bit
用root远程SSH登录后，修改root密码

1. #passwd
   
2. Changing password for user root.
   
3. New UNIX password:
   
4. Retype new UNIX password:
   
5. passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

密码我设置为aaabbbcccdddeeefff

可是，我退出，重新登录，如果输入123456登录，不能登录
可是，我只要输入以下这些却都能登录了，为什么会这样
aaabbbccc
aaabbbccceexxx
aaabbbcccddshit
aaabbbcccddasdflasd
aaabbbcccdd

就是说只要我密码前9位正确了，它就让我登录了，怎么会这样？？救命啊

update 16:03 做了个测试，不一定如此。
虽然很多地方说RedHat系列默认密码最长8 char。

我测试了下centos 4.8，几十位密码都可以的。

有种说法是如果密码是用DES加密的话最长就只能8位密码，如果是MD5或blowfish的话可以更长。

this is, most probably, because you've not changed the Encryption method for password. Default is DES that does not allow passwords more then 8 chars long, regardless of Min and Max fields. To reach your goal you should change the encryption method to MD5 or Blowfish.

不知道哪里看密码用了什么方法加密的？
