VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is seeking a CIM (Common Information Model) Engineer to advance the ESX product. The responsibilities are three-fold: (1) Enhance the CIMMOM and CIM provider software, to provide support for latest applications and hardware (2) Fix CIM related defects in the current product; and (3) Resolve customer related product defects related to ESX kernel software.

Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain infrastructure/providers for CIM for management of system hardware, storage and VMware virtualization products.
• Work with open management standards such as CIM/WBEM, SMI-S, SMASH and web service standards such as WS-I.
• Deliver critical software patches, maintenance releases, feature enhancements.
• The candidate must have good communication skills to forge a strong working relationship with engineering groups, QA groups and customer support.

Requirements
• Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent. Master's desirable.
• At least 3 years of relevant industry development experience in C/C++.
• Strong object-oriented design, programming and problem-solving skills.
• Development experience with CIM, SMI-S, SMASH, WMI desirable.
• Experience with CIMOM (Pegasus, sfcb) desirable
• Experience with Opensource software is desirable
• Experience developing for both Windows and Linux/Unix platforms is highly desirable but at least one is required.
• Experience with inter process communication, client server architecture, systems programming highly desirable.
• Experience with Python nice to have but not required.
• Experience with SOAP/XML, Webservices nice to have but not required.
• Fluent oral and written English
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills; must be an excellent team-player.
