Installing FreeNX in Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy

This article will explain the installation of a FreeNX server without any limitation on the number of users
We will install the FreeNX server because there is two versions of the server :
NX Server from
www.nomachine.com
that is limited to two users
FreeNX Server from
http://freenx.berlios.de/
that has no limitation
- All the step are done through the gnome-terminal
STEP #1 - Add the repository in the source file
- edit /etc/apt/sources.list :
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
- at the end of the file add those 2 lines
deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/marceloshima/ubuntu
hardy main
deb-src
http://ppa.launchpad.net/marceloshima/ubuntu
hardy main
- than run the command
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
STEP #2 - Install the FreeNX packages on your Ubuntu 8.04 machine
sudo apt-get install expect openssh-server nxlibs nxagent nxproxy freenx-server
STEP #3 - Add a user to the FreeNX Server
sudo /usr/bin/nxserver --useradd username --system --administrator
- you can do this command as mush as you need it
STEP #4 - Install the NX Client
- for ubuntu computer :
wget http://64.34.161.181/download/3.2.0/Linux/nxclient_3.2.0-9_i386.deb
- to install it :
sudo dpkg -i nxclient_3.2.0-9_i386.deb
- for Windows computer :
http://64.34.161.181/download/3.2.0/Windows/nxclient-3.2.0-10.exe

- to start/stop the server:
sudo /usr/bin/nxserver --start or --stop or --restart

Nous installerons la version sans limitation car il existe différente version de NX server:
NX Server de la compagnie
www.nomachine.com
qui est limité à deux utilisateurs
FreeNX Server de la compagnie
http://freenx.berlios.de/
qui n'a aucune limitation
- Toutes les étapes suivantes se déroulent dans le terminal de gnome.
STEP #1 - Préparer la liste des sources
- Ajouter à /etc/apt/sources.list :
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
- à la fin du fichier ajouter c'est 2 lignes
deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/marceloshima/ubuntu
hardy main
deb-src
http://ppa.launchpad.net/marceloshima/ubuntu
hardy main
- puis exécuter la ligne suivante
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
STEP #2 - Installer les packages nécessaire au serveur FreeNX
sudo apt-get install expect openssh-server nxlibs nxagent nxproxy freenx-server
STEP #3 - Ajouter les utilisateurs au serveur FreeNX
sudo /usr/bin/nxserver --useradd username --system --administrator
- Vous pouvez répéter cette opréation pour tous les utilisateurs que vous voulez ajouter.
STEP #4 - Installation du Client FreeNX
- pour le client Ubuntu downloader le package suivant :
wget http://64.34.161.181/download/3.2.0/Linux/nxclient_3.2.0-9_i386.deb
- pour l'installer :
sudo dpkg -i nxclient_3.2.0-9_i386.deb
- Pour les clients Windows installer le client suivant:
http://64.34.161.181/download/3.2.0/Windows/nxclient-3.2.0-10.exe
