Try Octave  =>; http://www.octave.org , which is free and seems to support multi-CPU, and is _largely compatible_ with Matlab. I suppose users familiar with Matlab should have no problems working with Octave.

Mathematica and Maple (not Mapple) are similar in applications wrt Matlab.

Oops. It was O.K. this morning, probably shutdown for maintenance.

Never mind, the http://www.octave.org site is useful for background information and documentation only and for die-hards, the source codes. There is an Octave RPM package in various versions of RedHat Linux such as 9.0 where you can have the documentation.
