按照原文升级2.4内核到2.6不能起动的问题. 问题如下,请求帮助

grub.conf 文件内容如上, 但是没有办法起动,开机提示如下

VFS: cannot open root device "/dev/hdb1" or Unknown_block(0,0)

注: RH9 安装在 第一个IDE从盘的硬盘第一分区上

我是双硬盘，一个装XP（IDE1主盘），一个装linux（IDE1从盘），有boot分区，这些是确定的。至于为什么（hd0,0）因为我是新手，我也不大清楚。不过我的从盘里有一个fat32分区（在后面30G），在挂载这个区分的时候，使用的就是/dev/hdb5呀。再一个我改成/dev/hda1也不行的,还是出现同样的问题。

在grub>;提示符下用默认的
grub>;root (hd0,0)
grub>;kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/
grub>;initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8.img
grub>;root
或者
grub>;root (hd0,0)
grub>;kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=/dev/hdb1(hda1)
grub>;initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8.img
grub>;root

都不能启动内核是2.4.20-8的系统，如果直接在启动菜单选择这个还是可以进入linux-2.4.20-8的,不知道为什么出现这现象。

重启出现这个提示是什么意思呢？
grub.conf中默认是这样的，后来改成root=/dev/sda1还是上面的提示
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.2 ro root=LABEL=/

我按你的方法升级，但升级后用新内核启动时，报错。

以下是启动时，出现的错误提示：
