Principal Solution Engineer
Principal Responsibilities
1. Become a key contributor to the team with experience and desire to grow into increasingly challenging technical, business and leadership roles.
2. Lead / guide engineering teams to perform application testing with industry standard storage performance benchmarks. Analyze performance results and provide feedback to base product teams.
3. Work with technology peers to establish application testing procedures and methodologies
4. Guide the engineering teams to automate the application testing process.
5. Constantly pinpoint and provide feedback to base product teams about the issues with existing products and influence future product designs to overcome the short comings.
6. Represent company at various industry forums related to emerging technologies.
7. Ascertain the competitive advantages / disadvantages of EMC storage solutions. Understand the product and solution gaps and provide the feedback to base product teams.
8. Create and review Solution requirement documents.
9. Guide product management and product marketing teams with product launch and Go-To-Market activity of new storage solutions.
Requirements
1. Required 9+ years of experience in system architecture, design and implementation of enterprise application solutions.
2. Required 2+ years of experience leading teams of less than 5 people.
3. Required 2+ years of experience dealing with any one of the EMC storage products.
4. Should be able to demonstrate that the candidate is a thought leader with at least one emerging storage technologies like, “Low latency networks”, “Flash Storage”, “Big Data”, “IP based storage” etc.
5. A strong communication skill as the job requires interacting with various business units and product teams.
6. Good documentation skills. Should be able to document and explain the concepts and observations to various other engineering teams across the company. A reference to prior work like any publicly available literature will be an added advantage.
7. Sound knowledge of storage system application performance testing concepts. Thorough knowledge of commonly available storage benchmarks like IOMeter, FIO, Oracle’s ORION, SQLIO.
8. Good working knowledge of one of the enterprise applications like SAP, Oracle Enterprise Business suite, Oracle Database, MS SQL Database, 9. Messaging applications like Microsoft Exchange. Especially the performance troubleshooting aspect of these applications.
9. Prior knowledge of working with database level benchmarks like TPC-C, TPC-H, TPC-E, TPC-DS, Microsoft JetStress, SAP SD benchmark is a huge plus.
10. Strong background of FC / iSCSI protocols, NFS / CIFS protocols and storage stack overall.
11. Good knowledge of low latency storage software stack like Infiniband and iSER is a big plus.
12. Working knowledge of scripting languages like PERL, Python, and AWK/SED. Knowledge of high level languages like C, C++ or Java is desired.
