vmware -solaris virtual machine

Installed dual boot xp pro and solaris8 10/1 intel. Boot into solaris no problem. Set up solaris virtual machine using vmware on xp, when power on, get display problem. Looks like vmware\'s video driver for solaris is not right. Any idea how to fix it? thanks.

which version of vmware?

can you telnet into the solaris box command line?

if yes, maybe telnet in, then manually start openwin and see if it works.

vmware workstation 3.0. I can start solaris machine fine, just no GUI. It always come up with kdmconfig screen. I downloaded a new video driver for vmware solaris, but it didn\'t help

Read somewhere that the new version of solaris 2/2 release will cure it, but don\'t know where to download one. Do you know?

sounds like you\'ve tried everything already.  and it does sound like a driver problem.  solaris x86 has driver issue to start with.  now, it\'s on top of vmware.  man   really not much i can suggest.  otoh, if you just want to have solaris up along with winxp, and be able to use its gui, perhaps you can try exceed or vnc into the solaris vm and do whatever you have to do,  just no console.  btw, where are you located?

Where can I get exceed or vnc then? I\'m in south west.

vnc can be downloaded from att\'s website
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/download.html

just install it and start the vnc sever,

then from client side, just run vnc viewer, or go in directly using a web browser.

exceed can be downloaded from many places.  just do a search.
