Hi,

The /etc/resolv.conf is same on Solaris and HP-UX. So if you have a working Solaris machine, just ftp the file and change the file permission/ownership accordingly.

If that is the case, do as Mr. hpux suggested: check your /etc/nsswitch.conf file. You can post your /etc/nsswitch.conf, and /etc/resolv.conf file here. We can have a look for you.

1. Can you ping the nameserver\'s IP?
2. If you can, then try to use the following entry in the /etc/nsswitch.conf:

hosts: dns [NOTFOUND=continue TRYAGAIN=continue] files

3. If you can\'t ping your DNS server (nameserver), then you have a network problem. Check the routing table with \"netstat -rn\" command.

If that is the case, then you really have to solve your  reverse lookup issue on the DNS server. For every system, if you are using DNS, then you should be able to do \"nslookup <hostname>;\" and \"nslookup <ip-of-your-host>;\". If either one doesn\'t work or the results do not match, then you need to work on the DNS server - the problem is on your DNS server.
