Are you sure the devalias setting and boot-devioce env. variable setting right?
Try to boot followed by the boot disk physical path at Prom prompt.

solaris8安装问题

对于devalias setting and boot-devioce env. variable 不是太懂,在boot之前,运行了set-defaults
用boot disk 起动,显示physical path 后就不死了,不过用stop-a能回到{6} ok

When you run set-defaults, all the customerized nvram settings are lost.  So it definitely looks like the disk alias points to wrong physical hard disk.

Do you install Solaris on external Multipak Disk or internal disk?

Please give more information about your hardware configuration info.

solaris8安装问题

Diskbrd and diskisp are just two aliases. You can name anything you want, the more important thing is what physical device (i.e., the physical device path) associated with that alias.

diskbrd /sbus@3,0/SUNW,fas@3,8800000/sd@a,0
diskisp /sbus@3,0/QLGS,isp@3,10000/sd@a,0
In your case, diskbrd refers to a disk with target 10 attached to Sunw Fast/wide SCSI controller on first borad slot in the back and diskisp refers to a disk with target 10(a->10,...f->15) attached to differential SCSI controller.

Now if you remember the logical device name (/dev/dsk/cXtYdZ) and slice number(or partition Number) of the disk you install the Solaris root filesystem, then you can try run\"probe-scsi-all\" to find out actual scsi device attached to your system(the devalias did not show the physical devices you have)

Then you could try run boot phyical_device_path or devalias points that physical device.

If you do not remember  the logcical device name mention above, at o.k., prompt, type boot cdrom -s to boot into single user mode using cd-rom installation medium.

Then run format and check partition table and guess which one could be most likely boot disk, then try to mount that partition under /a and check /a/etc/vfstab to find out boot disk.

Good Luck.

Could you try rest of suggestion?

And if you sure \"/sbus@3,0/SUNW,fas@3,8800000/sd@0,0 \" is the harddisk you installed Solaris. Please go ahead to boot from cdrom to single user mode by typing \"boot cdrom -s\" at prom. Once you enter the single user mode, try to run format to verify it.

i try to run command boot  /sbus@3,0/SUNW,socal@d,10000/sf@0,0/ssd@w2100002037773f92e,0
my God , it is OK!!!!

but i don\'t know how i configure my computer make it auto boot, would you tell me? thank you again

what diffences have \'\"/sbus@3,0/SUNW,fas@3,8800000/sd@0,0 \' and   \'sbus@3,0/SUNW,socal@d,10000/sf@0,0/ssd@w2100002037773f92e,0 \'?

i know w210000203773f92e is WWN number in \'sbus@3,0/SUNW,socal@d,10000/sf@0,0/ssd@w2100002037773f92e,0 \', but i don\'t know what meanings WWN number is?

Great.

To auto boot  all you need to do is type \"nvalias disk /sbus@3,0/SUNW,socal@d,10000/sf@0,0/ssd@w2100002037773f92e,0 \" at prom.

Next type reset at prom.

So you must have SUN A5x00 disk array attached to your system. I would recommend you go to http://docs.sun.com to down load some documents about disk array and Prom reference book.
