DHCP client can not reach the DHCP server

two computers is connected by cross cable, and one works as a DHCP server with ip (192.168.1.201) and also set with a IP scope defined.\r\nand the another computer (client) is set as automatically obtain IP from DHCP.\r\nbut the client cannot reach the DHCP server. such as ping 192.168.1.201 or ipconfig/renew..\r\n\r\nwhat is the problem??\r\n\r\nPS I am  following the practice in the MCSE win2000 server book published by Mircosoft, chapter 9 lesson 2..\r\n\r\nthank you all in advance.

but if the client is set with ip 192.168.1.1, it can ping the server ..\r\nwhat is the problem?

can you access resource on the server from client with static IP address?  The DHCP server has problem, if YES.

You can use Network Monitor to trace the network traffic and compare what is the difference between the two IP address on the client.\r\n\r\nNOTE: Ping use ICMP, so you can set filter accordingly.

first，check you IP Scope, which scope are you defined?\r\nsecond, check you Event log, whethet your DHCP working?\r\nthird, run IPconfig /all  command on your client, show me the screen\r\n4th, if you enable some services,such as ICS/NAT or another proxy server, it can act as a simply dhcp\r\n\r\nwith best wishes. or you can contact me by msn:gzdrlee@hotmail.com
