Job purpose
The role is in the WebSphere Engineering team within the Integration Platforms vertical within Customer Business Systems (CBS). The role involves a mix of technical responsibilities, working around a number of technology areas from the IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) family. The primary customers for the team are development/support units in other areas of CBS. The team has a central role to play in supporting and driving forward the platform technology for CBS.
Overview of unit
Integration Platforms
Integration Platforms is a primary vertical in CBS, providing technology and delivery services for new development and production support. The vertical sits as a peer to a number of other verticals all reporting to the Director of CBS. The WebSphere Engineering team has the remit to provide the underlying WAS infrastructure and associated automation/tooling, support for environment provisioning, and monitoring capabilities. The team supports environments from development to production across 3 lines of business.
Key responsibilities
• Build of new Websphere Application Server instances.
• Involvement in support and patching activities for delivered systems, with a focus on performance, availability and compliance.
• Participation in production support rota.
• Maintain and enhance existing tools and frameworks used by the Websphere team.
• Building effective relationships across Technology and other business areas.
Required Skills
1 WAS administration: Build, configuration, performance tuning and problem analysis for version 6.1 and later. Knowledge of Jython and scripting interfaces.
2 UNIX skills: Reasonable fluency with unix, and shell scripting.
3 JEE: Knowledge of Java enterprise edition with emphasis on packaging, deployment into WAS, problem analysis.
4 Good English skills
