急。新手问个问题：MYSQL的安装？？

在用./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql时。最后提示

mysqld ended

然后就是光标闪动。

这是什么问题？

最后没办法用BSD下的PORTS方式安装的

自己没办法CONFIGURE

我的环境是: redhat linux 7.3
                   mysql 4.0.12

就是没法编译过去。到处找资料。未果。请高手指点一二。

不过这版太没人气。一天才见一贴。看样子要在这版问出个名堂来。还有困难。。。

To start mysqld at boot time you have to copy support-files/mysql.server
to the right place for your system

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SET A PASSWORD FOR THE MySQL root USER !
This is done with:
./bin/mysqladmin -u root  password 'new-password'
./bin/mysqladmin -u root -h Firewall  password 'new-password'

NOTE:  If you are upgrading from a MySQL <= 3.22.10 you should run
the ./bin/mysql_fix_privilege_tables. Otherwise you will not be
able to use the new GRANT command!

You can start the MySQL daemon with:
cd . ; ./bin/safe_mysqld &

You can test the MySQL daemon with the benchmarks in the 'sql-bench' directory:
cd sql-bench ; run-all-tests

Please report any problems with the ./bin/mysqlbug script!

Starting the mysqld server.  You can test that it is up and running
with the command:
./bin/mysqladmin version
