Emergency

Here's one emergency. I write a shell to do following but stucked on one point. That I execute command 'kill' and if kill failed I want to echo 'Failed' and exit else I want to echo 'Success'. The shell is alike:

kill -9 $PID || (echo "rocess FAILED!";exit
echo "Success"           

But when kill failed, it will echo Failed and success both. How to correct? Please give a help!
