Problem in updating irix6.5.19f to irix6.5.22m

i have downloaded   the  three files  of irix6.5.22m from the sgi.
but when i install  it ,such conflicts occured.
i'm not sure if f can't update to m???

from pre 6.5.20 ,[i.e., 6.5.19, 6.5.18 ...] you need to apply a patch first. -- check sgi site for the patch number. [Sorry, I forget the patch no.] Alternatively, if you are playing around/getting acquainted with IRIX, you may first upgrade from 6.5.19f to 6.5.20m then 6.5.22m. No patch is required for updating from 19 to 20.

from 6.5.20 up, you do not need to apply the patch for upgrading to 22m.

i meet a problem after updating!!!
when i restarted my computer, i found the toolches "Systerm->;System Manager" didn't work.

and i can find /usr/sysadm/bin/sysmgr
when i run it .it says
"Segmentation fault (core dumped)"

when i run #file /core, it says
"/core: IRIX N32 core dump of ''sysmgr"

如果是升级，是要Patch的，因为inst的那些安装包的打包方式有所改变，老系统的inst不能读取新的系统下的软件包信息。

如果你是从光盘启动安装，就不用管这些了。

至于分区，如果你原来就是rootdrive分区的，再用这个根本就没有改变分区。

你可以在安装时使用命令mkfs来进行文件系统的初始化。

I did progressive upgrades as they became available (free of course), i.e. from 17m ->; 20m ->;22m rather than jumping from 19f to 22m.

My route is: 17m ->; 20m ->; 22m [both for my INDYs and O2s]. The upgradings went smoothly and no other cd was required.

For nfs, I recall to install it with 17m and then upgrade to 20m, then 22m. This has something to do with the need to apply a number of patches which I felt too lazy to download or something. I selddom use nfs other than installing and give it a try -- probably worrying about its security issues. I recall there were discussion's  neko's site [from foetz -- contributor of the mozilla/firefox] on nfs on post IRIX 6.5.20. Perhaps you can search neko's site on the subject.

As for the problem you encountered, I think patch 5086 is all you need as noted in sgi's release notes/caveats for installing 6.5.22m. Again, there has been quite extensive coverage in neko's site since 6.5.22m was out. Perhaps you can search neko's site on the subject to see if it gives you some clue to solve the problems you encountered.
