URGENT !!! windows dhcp client not able to update hostname.

In my office all windows (XP and 2000) dhcp client never update their forward mapping (hostname to ip address) record in the DDNS server, but the reverse mapping (ip address to hostname) was added successfully.

Does anyone facing this problem before??? what reason will cause this problem??

The problem is solved, must add "update-static-leases true;" in dhcpd.conf, without this setting, the client hostname would never been updated.

      


But I'm not really understand what is this setting used for???

which version of dhcpd are you using?
in my experience, using 'ddns-update-style interim;' declearation should be okay.
and that is also the default setting came from redhat's example.
