Most likely your problem is the backward compatibility of the OS libraries.
It's better to install oracle on the Linux version on which the oracle release is certified.

应该没有问题，因为我的oracle是从oracle网站下来的for redhat版本的，它没说那个redhat版本，所以应该可以，而且最重要的原因是网上有很多网友写的文章都是用redhat9.0装的oracle8.1.7,所以应该是可以的

can you tell how many redhat linux versions out there?

yes oracle 817 can be installed on RH9.0 but you will need to tweak this or that to make it work.  if you install it on the OS version that is supported by oracle your path is smoothier.

btw, why not try 9i or even 10g?

delete /etc/oraInst.loc  and /etc/oratab
then remove the entire directory where oracle software is installed.

你用root在su成oracle当然会出这个问题了，不如直接用oracle登陆xwindows。
