vmware中安装vmware-tools的问题！

请教！
     我在办公室和家里的两台电脑上安装vmware 5，然后虚拟Redhat 9。
     两台电脑除了硬件有些区别以外，我使用的vmware 5和Redhat 9的安装程序都是一样的，而且Redhat 9所选择的安装模式也是一样的！
     两台电脑都可以顺利的安装好Redhat 9,但是在安装vmware tools时遇见的情况却相差很大。在办公室里的电脑很轻松就安装好了vmware tools，分辨率可以正常的上到1024x768，使用也正常，安装过程中未要求我输入任何东西！但是在我家的电脑中，首先要求我给出gcc的安装位置。因为我默认安装的是工作站模式，所以不包含gcc，但是我觉得奇怪的是：两台机器的软件环境是一样的，为什么一个需要我安装gcc而另一个不需要呢？google了一下，发现是vmware tools 在安装的时候会检测你的安装环境（但不知道是硬件还是软件？），然后根据情况不同，他的安装配置也会发生变化，需要重新编译，所以需要安装gcc。网上有文章说修改XF86Config可以让他不重新编译，就不要gcc而可以继续安装vmware tools了，但我实验没有成功，也不知道他的根据是什么？哪位大虾可以给解释一下呢？是什么因素会导致vmware tools需要gcc来重新编译呢？真的可以修改XF86Config来避免重新编译吗？
      为了能继续，我又安装了gcc，再次安装vmware tools时，他又出现：
    What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel 。好像是需要内核文件，请问这个问题又怎么解决？
      最后，当我在安装vmware tools出现需要给出gcc位置时，由于我当时还没有安装，自然就无法给出正确的位置，安装无法继续下去，但是我也不知道怎么在字符界面下结束安装，ctrl+z是可以退出，但是他并没有结束任务，只是中止退出了，请问怎么结束任务退出呢？谢谢指点！

这是询问与VMWARE TOOL有关的C头文件，如果你mount上了光驱，那么它应该在/mnt/cdrom 下VMWARE TOOL里的文件里边，你可以自己看看啊。

最后，当我在安装vmware tools出现需要给出gcc位置时，由于我当时还没有安装，自然就无法给出正确的位置，安装无法继续下去，但是我也不知道怎么在字符界面下结束安装， ctrl+z是可以退出，但是他并没有结束任务，只是中止退出了，请问怎么结束任务退出呢？

用ps -a 然后Kill不行吗？

肯定是你的内核版本不一致导致的，vmware预编译了一些版本的hgfs的模块，保开redhat9的，如果你的内核不是默认内核就要给你编译一个与你内核一致的。你用uname -a 仔细看看。

里面有个地方问你要不要自己编译，不编译就用现成的，选n跳过，就不需要gcc了，其实差不多，不编译也可以。

谢谢crqucl和大家的帮助，我按照你说得已经装好了！
不过现在有一个新的问题出现了！
分辨率达到1024x768了，但是似乎刷新频率不对，屏幕看起来有点刺眼！
我察看系统的现实属性，里面竟然仍然是“800x600”，难道是vmware tools设计的显示配置没有加载在系统配置中？我尝试直接在这里修改显示属性到1024x768，并打算修改刷新频率，结果重启Xwindows以后，屏幕又回到了没有安装vmware tools的情况下，我检查XF86Config，文件内容也便回到了初始的内容，和vmware tools配置的内容完全不一样了！
没有办法，只好使用vmware的系统快照回到安装好vmware tools的状态下，屏幕又回到了1024x768，但是我不知道该怎么来修改刷新频率了！
如果是在XF86Config中直接修改的话，请问该怎么改呢？
