i can't believe nobody mention ubuntu, which is the easiest linux distrobution on the earth and is for human being, haha not for greeks. i can remember how many distrobution i installed; basically there are three kinds of linux distro:
redhat based(redhat, mandriva, even suse),
debian based(debian, ubuntu, damn small, knoppix),
self based(such as gentoo, which uses portage as its software manegment, so special)
Brief comparision:
three of them be very good on depolying for server or desktop. however, redhat is losing its reputation as day goes by; meanwhile debian based distro seems will dominate the future of linux, because it is stable, fexible, scalarble and always free. gentoo is another big guy in linux, it is fast but hassle for compling codes.
Suggestion:
If you wanna give a try on linux, try ubuntu or any kind of redhat based and debian based linux,
in other words, if you wanna learn something for linux, you definitely should try gentoo, but it is very complicated and wasting time on compliing source codes. |
