在有SCSI和IDE硬盘上安装Linux 或 BSD

我有一台Intel server, 用的是N440BX PCIset， 双CPU 500MHz, 1G ECC Registered RAM. 机板上有SCSI 和 IDE 硬盘接口。 我试装了Fedora 4 和 FreeBSD 5.0, 安装成功。 但是REBOOT 后，系统均不能起动。 我把BOOT LOADER 装在 ／dev/hda的MBR 上,  /boot 是在 /dev/sda1, root dir 是在 ／dev/sda2,   第一个IDE 硬盘(／dev/hda) 是 paimary master.  SCSI 硬盘 （/dev/sda） 是SCIS ID 4。     想请教类似的经验高手我的问题在那里。

把ide硬盘卸下再说，FreeeBSD已经发布6.0，不要再用5.0

谢谢二位帮助。 问题有了线索。
问题出在执行SMP版的KERNEL时， 系统不起动。 使用单CPU KERNEL, 系统能起动， 而且把BOOT LOADER 装在 SCSI 硬盘上也能起动。 看来我得重新编译KERNEL. KERNEL 对于 双CPU的缺省设定可能要修改。I WILL KEEP YOU　ＧＵＹＳ POSTED.

initrd of your SMP kernel is different from the UP kernel when you installed the system.

I tried serveral time to recompile and run the lastest kernel (2.6.14), but failed to get system up using dual CPU. I am going to give up and turn this  computer to a windows machine.
The motherboard is kind of older version (intel N440BX), it supports Pentium II CPU. Then Intel released an BIOS update, claiming the new verrsion supports Pentium III. I updated BIOS, the BIOS does recognize dual Pentium III 5000MHz CPU. However, when I started linux, I got the error message says something like kernel panic, CPU spin lock. GIVE UP!

Oops., not 5000MHz, but 500 MHz.
