When Sun Microsystems needed a name for a new workstation, they contracted with Libretto to generate a series of candidates. Libretto brainstormed a number of ideas, focusing on names that would help extend and enhance the equity of Sun Microsystems’ master brand.

The client gravitated quickly to the name “Solaris,” the Latin word for “sun.” Due to a shift in the client’s product marketing strategy, Sun eventually decided to market the new workstation as the 386i. However, the company later adopted the Solaris name for its version of the UNIX operating system. 觉得还是偶的答案正确。
Sun 公司用的 Solaris， 意思是 “太阳” （sun），而不是 “太阳的（Of The Sun）”。

正如 大蚂蚁 说的，Solaris 是一个品牌的名字，而商品一般是不会用一个形容词来命名的。

再看 Sun 公司历年发布的 Solaris CD/DVD，绝大多数都有一个太阳的图标在上头。
